Into The Woods

In my endless pursuit to run away from normalcy, I fell into the tourist cycle and signed up for the almighty Great Ocean Road Tour. The view at the end of the limestone formations were nothing short of amazing, especially in pictures. But in hindsight, I enjoyed our stop at Otway Rainforest far more than the Twelve Apostles, and far more than I should.

Admittedly, I wasn't too thrilled initially to hear that we're gonna trudge a rainforest right after lunch. I thought I could sleep off the food coma while we get to the destination, but my fantasy was short-lived when we got to the rainforest before my seat barely had the time to warm up.
Blinded by the heat of our own climate, I never quite understood how some people find joy in trekking rainforests - in my head the journey is sweaty, tiring and hot af. But in Melbourne where the sun shines and we don't break a sweat, I really got to look past the heat issue and see nature through the eyes of those who truly relish in it.
With trees growing so tall I can't see its tallest branch, it was unbelievable these trees have lived for over several centuries. Some outgrew their roots and created gaps in between that looks straight out from a movie.

Maybe it was the whimsicality of it all or the breath of even fresher air I never got to inhale, the serenity looking out into nothing but vast greenery did help me regain a better sense of balance, both literally and figuratively. Or perhaps, it was just nice to get away from the bus, where our guide's boring talk sent me into a deep slumber - enough to not want to move, but not enough to silence his voice.
But trapped in that moment was a time where I can always look back to when the tough gets going - a moment fo respite where I was a little less anxious and troubles took a backseat.
