Just Try Looking Away

Everyone meet Munirah. A great friend that never fails to get me laughing till my tummy aches when we meet.
Met up with this great pal of mine just over the week for much needed catching up and routine dose of laughter and what not.

Lunch affair happened at Kaw Kaw, a cafe located at Aliwal Street. A few feet away from Eat. Play. Love, I wonder why Haji Lane was all the rave when it came to cafes in the Bugis district. I mean Aliwal has it's own trove of notable hangout spots.
Understandably, crowds and cafes aren't a thing when it's a weekday afternoon, but when we arrived, we were the only patrons I thought it was closed for a minute. But hey, an empty cafe is always better than a busy one.

We each got a burger, I got the beef and Mun got the chicken. But honestly, the burgers are nothing out of the world, didn't even manage to finish my portion in the end. The beef was over ground and there was too much flour in the patty it was spongey almost.
But the Mac n' Cheese was rather delightful. The cheese was potent and sufficient, the turkey bacon added a wonderful nuttiness that cuts the sharpness of the dairy. Definitely bonus points to the al dente pasta.
We were off to our next destination, but not before coming across this beautiful shop/house[?], with tiles reminiscent of colonial buildings back in the days. And it was just too much of a waste to not have a photo op, not especially when I brought out my 70D out to play.

Clearly miss thing here knows how to work her angles, just look at her.
Coincidentally, it was the almighty free cone day by Ben's & Jerry, so we figured why not do our countrymen proud by joining in the 'free stuff, must take' movement. The sweltering heat that day just adds to the list of reasons why we should do just that. Trust me when I say it was hot, I was wearing a t-shirt.

Ironically, instead of snagging a free cone, we paid $20 for the waffle option. The waffle was how I liked it, soft and fluffy, and three scoops of ice cream - phish food, cookies and cream and some caramel flavour. But seriously, shoot me the next time I waste twenty-fucking-dollars on some waffle and ice cream.
I can get artisanal ice cream and waffles for cheaper that tastes better. I blame it on the heat that day for my foolish decisions.
Ice cream aside, Dempsey is a idyllic spot that momentarily takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and I always appreciate these parts of Singapore. Though the heat keeps you grounded at all times. Even though Dempsey is nice and serene, staying around when nightfalls ain't something we recommend anyone to partake.
On our way out, we stumbled upon some outdoor seats and the rabbit hole, and the physical aesthetics made it quite impossible to just escape the area without a photoshoot.

I guess this is as close as Singapore could get to having a hobbit's hideout.
It was pretty late in the afternoon when we visited, so we barely scraped the surface of this whimsical wonderland. Definitely going back to check out the other hidden spots, and also give the famed P.S cafe a go.
